Despite jumping to a quick 1-0 lead Wednesday afternoon, the boys hockey team lost to the Monomoy Sharks 5-1 on the road. The loss dropped Nantucket’s record to 1-13 this season.

The Whalers were scheduled to play Dennis-Yarmouth on Thursday, however poor weather forced the game to be postponed. Nantucket will celebrate their lone senior, Miles Beaudette, during a ceremony prior to the team’s game against Foxborough High School at 2 p.m.

The girls basketball team improved to 9-6 this season following a 51-14 victory over the Rising Tide Herons on the road Thursday afternoon.

The Whalers only need to win one more game in order to guarantee they finish with a record of .500 or better and have five games remaining. Nantucket will need to win at least 10 of their 20 games since the top 32 teams are the only ones guaranteed a place in the tournament. Nantucket is currently #50, in large part due to a low opponent rating. If they win one more game, they will guarantee themselves a play-in game.

Their first chance at earning that 10th win will be on Saturday, February 15that home against Hull High School at 2 p.m.

SCHEDULE AHEAD:

Friday, February 14th:

The boys basketball team will be on the road playing the Mashpee Falcons at 3:30 p.m.

Saturday, February 15th:

The boys hockey team will hold their senior day and host Foxborough High School at 2 p.m.

The girls basketball team will host Hull High School at 2 p.m.

Sunday, February 16th:

The girls basketball team will be on the road playing Martha’s Vineyard at 1:30 p.m.
