The girls tennis team continues to roll and after winning their sixth straight match of the regular season, are 7-3 this spring and firmly inside the Division 3 power rankings.

The Whalers beat the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins 5-0 on Monday, led by Viki Bozhkova, Sara Dussault, and Gabby Nikolova in singles play.

Dussault won her match in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. She said she played pretty well but wasn’t trying to do anything other than get the ball back and wait for her opponent to mess up her returns towards the end. She felt she was consistent and played a smart match.

Nikolova won her match in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. She said she felt her match went okay but didn’t get many rallies going.

“I was placing my shots very smartly,” Nikolova said. “My opponent would sometimes hit a deep shot, and I wasn’t ready, so I have to learn to stay on my toes even when playing weaker players. I was happy with my serves because I was getting a majority of my first serves in.”

In doubles play, Emery Bouchard and Ashley De Oliviera were the first pairing and won their match in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. The duo said they thought they played very well together on Monday and had good communication. They felt they did a good job keeping the ball in play, but want to work on returning lobs from their opponents.

The second doubles pairing was Ella Boyd and Charlotte Brooks, who won their match in straight sets 7-6, 6-4.

The Whalers will attempt to earn their 8th win on the season and continue climbing the Division 3 MIAA Power Rankings after initially placing 21st in Tuesday’s release when they host the Sturgis East Storm on Wednesday, April 29th at 4 p.m.

The girls lacrosse team improved to 9-0 Tuesday afternoon following a 19-9 victory over the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins on the road despite missing some key players who missed the game to attend Tuesday’s Nantucket Scholar ceremony, with senior captain Myah Johnson notably one of the two winners.

Dylan Damian and Rowan Paul were tied for the team lead with four goals. Grace Hanlon, Louisa Beni, and Grace Schroeder each scored three goals. Finley Herlihy and Madi Boulter each scored one goal. Damian also led the team with four assists, with Boulter tallying three assists of her own. Ella Douglas made 11 saves in net.
