This week’s Current Court Report includes arraignments and dispositions from Monday’s Nantucket District Court session.
Ranger Garcia Alcequize, 31, of Nantucket was arraigned on May 21 charges of assault and battery on a pregnant victim, assault and battery on a family/household member, and malicious destruction of property. He had not-guilty pleas entered on his behalf.
Alcequize had his bail revoked on May 5 charges of assault and battery on family/household member and assault with a dangerous weapon and $1,000 bail place on this new charge by district court judge James Sullivan. He will be held in the Barnstable House of Corrections and was ordered to return to court June 28 for a pretrial hearing.
Vykintas Zutautas, the 43-year-old Nantucket man accused of driving his bike into the Nantucket Intermediate School in February and pushing a teacher to the ground, will have a Feb. 10 charge of assault and battery continued without a finding for one year on the condition he write a letter of apology to the victim and complete probation without violation. Zutautas also had guilty findings filed on a disorderly conduct charge and disturbing public assembly charge stemming from the same incident for 90 days and 30 days respectively.
Charges of possessing liquor in school and trespassing were dismissed.
After being continued without a finding for two years, Denise Black-Khatri, 69, of Nantucket had Dec. 2, 2020 charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol (second offense) and negligent operation of a motor vehicle dismissed.
Russell Burns, 34, of Nantucket, will have an April 15 charge of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol continued without a finding for one year on the condition he complete a driver alcohol education program, forfeit his license for 45 days, pay $250 program fee, $250 head-injury fee, and $50 victim-witness fee.
Two charges of possessing a class B drug and a charge of negligent operation of a motor vehicle stemming from the same incident were dismissed.
Rachel Estepa, 35, of Nantucket was arraigned on May 16 charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. She had not-guilty pleas entered on her behalf and was ordered to return to court June 12 for a pretrial hearing.
Pedro E. Gonzalez de Aza, 38, of Nantucket, had a Dec. 30, 2022 charge of assault and battery on a family/household member dismissed due to lack of prosecution.
Steven Mejia Garcia, 23, of Nantucket had a Aug. 8, 2021 charge of assault and battery dismissed due to lack of prosecution.
Bradford G. Phelps, 55, of Nantucket was arraigned on May 20 charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol (third offense), negligent operation of a motor vehicle and possessing an open container of alcohol. He had not-guilty pleas entered on his behalf and his bail was set at $5,000. He was also required to remain alcohol free and comply with random tests as conditions of his release.
Phelps was ordered to return to court July 17 for a pretrial hearing.
Daniel A. Santangelo, 44, of Nantucket had a Sept. 1, 2003 charge of statutory rape of a child nolle prossed by the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s office after Santangelo was indicted and arraigned in Nantucket Superior Court earlier this month.
Kareem Hesham Taha, 38, of Nantucket was arraigned on a May 10 charge of assault and battery on a family/household member. He had a not-guilty plea entered on his behalf and was ordered to return to court June 12 for a pretrial hearing.
