School Committee Approves 6 Percent Raise For Superintendent

Nantucket Public Schools superintendent Beth Hallett has received a roughly 6 percent raise, bringing her total compensation for the coming school year to $243,500.

The School Committee voted unanimously to approve the raise after two executive session meetings, one last Thursday and another on Tuesday. Hallett is under contract through 2029, but her previous contract did not specify her salary beyond the 2025-2026 school year.

Since she was hired in 2019, Hallett has guided the schools through the COVID pandemic, a staffing crisis, and recent heated debates over a proposed artificial turf field slated for installation behind the high school.

She received a new three-year contract in 2023, and then was extended for another three years a year later. No School Committee member has voted against either of Hallett’s extensions or the latest raise, with the Committee presenting a unified front in support of Hallett.

The latest raise is a notable vote of confidence for Hallett. Her salary has been increased nearly 32 percent in the last three years, jumping $59,000 over the two extensions and her latest raise.
